  3. Clean windows

  4. Yard work/mulch

  5. Replace bathroom floor

  6. Clean shutters

Each year once spring arrives, flowers, blue skies, and sunny days beckon and keep me outside until it’s time for chilly days and bare trees. But I’m staying inside long enough to share what we did on a “stay”cation vs. vacation this summer. Boy, were we busy. (I loved it!)

It all started on a Friday night…

We had asked our trusty neighbor if we could borrow his power washer to clean our deck. He kindly said he would bring it over Friday or Saturday. We had planned on starting bright and early Saturday morning.

Well, when you have the tool, some time, and a nice evening, of course you start right away!

How fun!

We just couldn’t wait until Saturday morning

That power washing was kind of fun! We got a good head start Friday night and finished early Saturday.

While the deck dried in the sun, we replaced some boards and a post on the rail.  After painting the railing, we started on the deck floor, on our hands and knees, mind you. Rick wanted to brush it on.

We finished at 8:30 that evening. What a long day!

Now we can enjoy the deck more 🙂

Yes, the deck looks great here, but guess what? We had to paint it 3 times because it kept storming and washing the paint off!

Sunday after church Chelsea and Jacob took us to the Cheesecake Factory to celebrate Father’s Day. It was delicious and fun!

That afternoon, we touched up the deck where the rain messed it up. (Paint job #2)

Monday morning we did spring cleaning (even though it was summer). And then, yet again, we had to touch up the deck! (Paint job #3) Arghhh! Not only did we have rain, but big tree limbs down. Two of them almost landed on the deck!  😯

So many rainy, windy days!

Rick is really good about helping with projects, as you can tell. He even does windows! He cleans the outside while I clean the inside. Each and every window in the house was done! We checked this off our to-do list on Tuesday.

A window so clean you may walk right through it!

Everything looked so shiny and clean!

Wednesday was yard work/mulching day. Matching mulch was landscaped all around the deck as well as on the side and front of the house. And I planted some beautiful lilies, which the bunnies promptly devoured.  🙁

It was awesome to get all this accomplished, but we weren’t done yet. (But believe it or not, we did get some relaxing done!)

I had been looking forward to Thursday because we were going to replace our bathroom floor. The old floor was black vinyl squares that looked like marble; we were going for a big change: vinyl planks that look like wood. I am liking it!

Friday was a nice day, at least most of it was. Later, there were some uniquely awesome clouds which brought more rain, but we were able to go “wasp hunting” first!

We had had some wasps bothering us near our front door for awhile. We spent a lot of time spraying them. We noticed they kept going behind our shutters, so out came the ladder and up went Rick. He took all the shutters down, and I cleaned them. We found many old wasp homes!  😯

A precarious job! The wasps were fighting mad.

Ominous or awesome?!

Saturday. We finally took it easy.

That evening we went to the Cottonwood Marina in Blair, NE to hear my sister’s boyfriend, Bobb, and his band, Rustic Gold. I like that name.  🙂  Bobb plays a mean bass guitar!

Two of our daughters and my brother and one of my sisters were there. The sky was stormy and awesome! It was a good night. 🙂

Beautiful ending to a great week!

If you’ve read many of my posts, you know that I like order and to get things accomplished. So I thoroughly enjoyed this vacation week!

But, we had a surprise vacation later in the summer when our Marine daughter Calie offered to send us to San Diego to watch her in a competition. I will blog about that in the upcoming weeks. Stay tuned and be blessed….

Thanks for reading my blog!

Blessings and blooms,
