You are invited to come along with me in your mind and imagine this.  It’s a Friday afternoon, 5-6 pm.  Your work week is over.  The house is decluttered and clean.  A few lamps are on low, conveying a relaxing and inviting ambiance.  Some favorite music from your high school years is playing on YouTube and definitely adding to the ambiance.  It is late winter, but it feels like late spring.  The back door is open to a warm breeze, and an enticing smell of the charcoal grill wafts in.  Some of your favorite people are coming over for hamburgers, roasted asparagus, and french fries.  (Oh, and did I mention there is homemade honey vanilla cheesecake with blackberry/raspberry topping for dessert?)

This is living.  This is enjoying the simple things!  This is hunting possum…..what?!

Do you ever try to entice your kids to play??

I absolutely love times like this.  When the work is done (for the moment) and everything is in order, I am able to relax and enjoy myself.  I feel free!

This setting invokes feelings of nostalgia and a subdued, bubbling sense of excitement deep inside.  Do you know what I mean?!  For me, the house being in order and music are key, but spring-like winter weather with summer-like blue skies doesn’t hurt either!

There have been so many wonderful blue-sky days this winter, which is certainly not the norm.  😀

Vibrant blue sky in February!

Not your typical winter-day sky!  🙂

Huh??

By the way, I had quite the surprise earlier that afternoon.  I was just about to let Annie outside when I looked and saw a possum in our yard!  He/it stayed there for quite a while.  I even went towards it with a broom and tried to scare it away, but that didn’t work.  Early the next morning when I let Annie out that intruder was there again (still?), and he wasn’t afraid of her.  He bared his teeth!  Now, I don’t feel comfortable letting her out alone.  So, add possum hunter to my list of duties as homemaker!

Arghhhh.

Possum

The intruder!

This is a shorter post, but I wanted to share my feelings with you about a day like this.  That Friday night feeling is freedom, anticipation, and low-key excitement.  This post, this day, or any day is nothing stupendous, but I like sharing how ordinary life can be beautiful and exciting.  Little things give me joy.  (Not so much the possum.)  😯

I hope that as you look around your world you find situations that make you smile and give you that sense of excitement and, perhaps, even a bit of hope for the future.  I wish you many “open back door” Friday nights….and maybe even a slice of cheesecake.  😉

That’s all for this time. TTFN.  (Ta ta for now)

Blessings and blooms,
