Luke was 3 years old. He liked to observe lightning bugs out the back door. One night after watching them for a while, he exclaimed, “The big one burned out!”
It’s been a (busy) while and I sure have missed you all. I’m glad you are here!
Once spring and summer hit, it was just too nice to be inside much, and I’ve had a couple of awesome adventures that I hope to share with you later. But for today….
If you have been following my blog, you have met my daughters, Lacey, Chelsea, and Calie, and one of my sons-in-law, Dave. Today, I would like to spotlight my son, Luke.
While you peruse the photos, see if you can spot the ice cream scoop. I have no idea why it’s there!
Lucas Lee made his appearance in the summer of 1989 (two weeks late, I might add).
After 3 years and 9 months of getting all the attention, Lacey now had a brother to share some of the attention with! Let me clarify the situation.
One day my mom (Nana) was at our house holding Luke. Lacey wanted Nana to do something with her. Nana gently spoke, “I can’t right now, I’m holding the little man.”
Lacey, now famously, responded, “Well then, put the little man down!”
But she quickly came to love her little brother. 🙂
Out of all 4 of my kiddos, Luke and Chelsea are the closest in age being only 19.5 months apart. Therefore, they played well together except for times when Chelsea’s temper got out of control. (“Shut your underwear up, Luke!“)
Here are some sweet Luke and Chels times…
Fun times with Lacey and Calie…
The Funny Book
I’ve shared some “Funny Book” quotes of all 3 of the “grils” as Luke used to call them. He produced some good ones, too.
- Luke had a scab on his knee. He and Chelsea were sitting on the couch and Chelsea was trying to grab his scab. He said, “Chelsea was about ready to pick my owie, and it was about ready to hurt!” Luke was almost 3 and Chelsea was 1.
- Chelsea was about 4 months old. She was asleep in her infant seat with her mouth open. Luke looked at her and said, “Shut baby’s mouth-buvs.” Translation: Shut your mouth so bugs don’t get in! He was 2.
- Once I put Luke’s little baseball cap on Chelsea, and he excitedly hollered, “Now Chelsea’s a basketball game!” Age 2 yrs, 9 months
- Luke, age 3, was jumping off the stairs and he bumped into a chair. I asked if he was okay and he said, “My bone hurts.” I asked which one. “A bunch,” he replied.
Luke moved to Fort Collins, CO, in May 2012 to find a job and establish residency so he could go to Colorado State University affordably.
He graduated last December with a degree in Computer Information Services. (Yay!) Luke is a happy employee of Constant Contact, an online marketing company, as a Customer Engagement Specialist.
He now lives and works in Loveland, which is awesome because we always go through Loveland on our way to Estes. 🙂
Two classic memories…
- Luke was a “plug” baby. Rick used to put a plug in Luke’s mouth upside down or turn it upside down if he already had one in, just to see what he would do. Luke would immediately turn it around with his tongue like it was spring-loaded!
- Luke wrinkled up his little nose a lot. Rick and Lacey are imitating him. 🙂
Uncle Rick! 😀
My brother, Rick, is a great uncle! He was around a lot when our kids were little. He and daddy Rick came up with some creative ways to give the kids many thrills. For example:
- They zipped a kid into a suitcase and then put the suitcase down the slide. I always wondered what it looked like from a neighbor’s perspective!
- Pillowcase rides: In goes a kid and up in the air they would fly.
- Uncle Rick would tie them up with belts, ties, and anything he could find. They had to get out of it.
- Making the swing links very short. (See picture.)
I wish I had a picture of the suitcase going down the slide!
Mountains 😎
One last “Funny Book” entry.
I was upstairs and Chelsea came up to go potty again. I commented, “I need to take you to the doctor-you might have something wrong because you go so much!” Luke responded, “Yeah, she might have a water pipe broke, right Mom?” 😆
It was great sharing some memories with you. It’s always fun to dig through old photo albums to find long-forgotten treasures.
My one and only son is a treasure, too. He is loving, kind, and respectful. ♥ Love you, Luke!
Ta-ta for now.
Blessings and blooms,
Pam
